PRINTMAKING

I am a printmaker. The moment when I lift my piece of paper from my inked block is always a moment of sheer surprise and joy. While the figures I carve and print have elements of stylized realism, the vibrant colors I use abstracts the figures, placing them in a separate reality from our own. The color palettes and gradients I use are meant to inspire feelings of awe and pleasure. My mark making is a product from the movement and strength of my own body. When I am carving or mixing colors for inking, I rely heavily on my own intuition. It feels like I am improvising a melody of colors and shapes that bring together an entire composition.
